Event Information

Taking the place of the Cootamundra recovery handicap, this is a new event that will crown the overall club champion for NSW in 2019.

The event will consist of graded scratch races. A rider earns points for their club based on their finishing position. The aim of the event is not necessarily to cross the line first, but to win the most number of points for their club overall.

Within each grade, 1st place receives a number of points equal to the number of entrants. For example, if Division 2 has 20 entrants, the winner of Division 2 will receive 20 points towards their club.

2nd place receives 1 point less than 1st place; 3rd place receives 1 point less again; and so on in descending order up to the last finisher of the race. DNFs earn no points.

To determine a club's overall point score, add up the points from that club's top five finishers in each division.

For example, if there are 20 riders in each division and Club A has riders in Division 1 who finish 1st, 10th, 15th, 19th and 20th; riders in Division 2 who finish 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th and DNF; and no entrants in Division 3, Club A's points would be calculated as follows:

Division 1: 20+11+6+2+1 = 40
Division 2: 5+4+3+2+0 = 14
Division 3: 0
Total points: 54

In the event of a tie, the winner will be the club with the most number of wins across all divisions. If teams still cannot be separated, then it will be the club with the most number of 2nd places, and if still a tie then 3rd places, and etc.

For example, Club A's rider wins Division 1 and Club B's riders win Division 2 and 3, but both Club A and B finish on the same number of points. Club B would win.
