Sunday 17th August | Redlands Track Park (Scribbly Gums)
RATS Cycling Club presents Chicks in the Sticks – a three-hour cross country mountain bike event.
Chicks in the Sticks is a women’s only race suitable for both beginner and experienced riders - junior and senior. With a range of categories to choose from, to suit your riding experience and ability, there is something for everyone. 2025 will feature two loops - green and blue - rejoining to ride together through event village and over the timing mats.
Licence: AusCycling RACING membership WILL BE required, and must be shown on the day or purchased on the day if you enter here without it. A four-week free trial can be accessed at: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/free-trial ; alternatively, to cover you for more races, access a 12-month 'race off-road' or 'race all discipline' membership at https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership ; or choose an event day licence at: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/event-licences.
T-Shirts:
We will not be stocking t-shirts for this year's event. Prior years have encountered issues with the product used, so we're setting them aside to come back next year with a brand new product.
Chicken Run: Regular on the racing scene, with a solid level of fitness and skill (A grade - blue-level loop).
Free Range: Confident riders who have done a few races, with an intermediate level of fitness and skill (B grade - blue-level loop).
Have a Crack: Newly-hatched MTB riders, looking for a no-pressure and supportive race experience. You want to challenge yourself to enter, participate and do your best (C grade - green-level loop).
Queens of the Coop: A race experience for riders aged 50 years and over. (Blue-level loop. If you prefer to ride the green-level loop, please enter the Have a Crack category)
Battery Hens: A category for more experienced e-bike riders. (Blue-level loop)
Electric A-Peel: Our new category, in celebration of CITS Founding Member Cathy Peel, for less experienced e-bike riders. (Green-level loop)
Clipped Wings: The race for the single-speeders. (Blue-level loop)
(Enter separately and please ensure both parties use exactly the same team name)
Hard-Boiled Double Yolkers: Teams of two, with racing experience and good fitness. Tag-team on the blue-level loop.
Soft-Boiled Double Yolkers: Teams of two. Too shy to do it alone or concerned about your fitness? Bring a friend and do a tag-team around the green-level loop. (Age 15+)
Junior Double Yolkers: Teams of two between the ages of 11 and 14 years. Race the FULL green-level loop with the ladies for the shorter time of two hours. Ride tag team laps as for the Double Yolkers.
Chick-A-Dees: 30-minute race on a shorter course for riders between the ages of 12 and 15 years. (Adjusted course incorporating part of the green-level single trails)
Chicken Nuggets: 20-minute race on the shorter Little Chicks course, for riders between the ages of 5 and 11 years. (Adjusted course incorporating part of the green-level single trails and looping the event village)
Please don't enter Chick-a-Dees if you can ride for an hour - leave it for the new riders. Please consider having those riders join a friend and enter the Junior Double Yolkers, or Soft-Boiled Double Yolkers, depending on age.
Post on the CITS Facebook page - and RATS Cycling Club - if you need to find a new friend to ride with in a team. Once you've made contact and decided to join together, choose a team name and enter separately using that name.
