Whether you're an elite XC racer, a roadie, or a rookie, here's your chance to end 2021 with a bang at our last big race of the year - the First Turkey Dirt Criterium.
Much like a road criterium, the 'Dirt Crit' will be raced on a short fast loop. This specially laid out cross-country short-course (XCC) track is 1.25 kms long and predominantly green trail with only 12 metres elevation. This makes the course less technical than our longer XCO events but also much faster.
For newbies and roadies, the Dirt Crit is a great chance for your first dirt event, and for elite riders, it will be a total leg burner while you try to outpace your competition. Over half the loop is double width, providing plenty of overtaking and sprint opportunities - You can go fast on this track - Very fast! We've even built a special new segment to keep everyone on their toes!
Riders nominate their chosen category; A, B, C, or juniors, and each class will race separately to keep the pace flowing. Depending on numbers, classes might be combined or expanded as necessary on the day.
Another cool feature of the race circuit is the central elevated viewing area in the middle of the loop. Friends and family can watch the action from both directions, so bring your cheer squad along for support and to catch some great photo ops!
What sort of bike should you ride? Being a less technical race, there's a fairly big scope. Naturally, a hardtail or dual suspension mountain bike will be ideal. A cyclocross bike will probably struggle but a good gravel bike might be in with a chance especially on the long fire road sprint, but might reach its limits near the creek. The best way to find out is to hit the Strava segment, then jump on your bike ahead of the race and see how it goes! https://www.strava.com/segments/29958499
(NOTE: depending on numbers we may combine grades)
We will do our best to ensure that all entries are graded evenly through the nomination process and reserve the right to change any entry accordingly
