Racing at Muzz

Grading

  • Balmoral CC has a formal results and points based system for grading so that riders prove they can navigate a bunch and race finish before they potentially get out of their depth.  We also consider other factors like other club's grading and comments from our Commissaire race reports.
  • Our Club gradings are designed so that all men and women riders can be competitive in their grade. Complete a new grading form if this is not the case for you.
  • To race with us you MUST have a Balmoral CC "Muzz" grading and you can ONLY race that grade (or the appropriate Masters or Women's grade if eligible):
    • 1. You can get an initial grading by completing our our grading form. You can check your current grading here
      2. If you are new to Muzz and want to start racing in D grade, OR you want to move up or down ONE grade and have a valid justification for this, you can include good quality performance information in the EntryBoss “entry remarks” field when you enter to race. Be ready to respond to emails from our Handicapper.
      3. Contact our Club Handicapper at handicapper@balmoralcyclingclub.com.au or just fill out our grading form if you have a special case to be considered.

    Categories/Grades

    • When it is offered, (see schedule), Men and women riders over 40 years old, with an AusCycling race category of MMAS3/WMAS3 or higher, and a club grading of C or higher, can nominate to race in our Masters grade (you need to select "Masters") or race their regular club grade. Riders opt-in to race this category knowing that it will have a mixture of abilities present each week:

      • Masters must be over 40 and have an A, B, or C club grading.

    • When we offer our Women's-only race, women riders will need to select "Women" to enter that race, and not their regular club grade:

      • Women can choose to race the Women's only race or their regular club grade (not both).

    • Juniors participating in JD don't need to obtain a grading, but DO need an AusCycling "Race" or "Lifestyle" membership. See our Junior Development Policy for detailed information about our junior program, including criteria for progression through junior and open graded racing at Muzz.

    How to Enter

    • To race at Muzz you need to register through Entry Boss before 5:00pm Friday night. You can’t just turn up on the day and race.

    • If you haven’t raced before, please register early and submit your grading form by 5.00pm on the Thursday before you want to race, to give our volunteers plenty of time to address any grading or licence issues.

    • If you make an error in your entry and want to make a change, please do not scratch (you can't re-enter after you've scratched). Contact us directly at racing@balmoralcyclingclub.com.au and we will make the change for you.

    Registration and Marshalling

    • On Saturday morning registration opens approximately 30mins before each race. You'll need to "sign-in" and collect your race number at least 10mins before your race start.

    • Pin your race number on your right or left ribs – it MUST be visible to the Commissaires from the side! Racing clockwise = right ribs, racing anti-clockwise = left ribs.

    • Be ready to marshal for your race at least 10mins before your race start. You must attend the Commissaire's race briefing before your race.

    Podiums

    • At the end of each race, we will recognise podium places for the first 3 riders and prime winners in each grade.

    • When we run mixed racing, we will recognise the first woman finisher in a race if there are 3 or more women starters in that race. Where there are more than 8 women in a race, we will hold a "race within a race" and also recognise the first 3 women riders in that race.

    • Riders should present themselves in race kit, closed shoes and without helmets or sunglasses. Podium photos will be posted on our Facebook page and group at the end of racing.

    Prizes

    • With our return to Muzz, we are changing up how we recognise final positions:
      • We only offer prize money for A grade and Women (or, when we run only mixed graded racing, the first 3 women finishers in A and/or B grade). We will pay prize money into your bank account. Contact our Club Treasurer at treasurer@balmoralcyclingclub.com.au to claim your prize money.
      • In all other grades, those achieving a podium place or a prime will receive a free entry the next time they race with us (you can claim this by checking the volunteer box in EntryBoss).

    Scratchings, Cancellations & Refunds

At various times, we may need to cancel or postpone Muzz racing e.g. because of rain. Notifications will be made on our social media channels.

    • Riders can self-scratch with full refund until the closing time. We close entries as late as is practical for our volunteers.
    • If you scratch, you cannot re-enter without contacting us at racing@balmoralcyclingclub.com.au.
    • If we postpone racing, we will carry forward entries to the new date. Entries will be re-opened and riders may choose to self-scratch with refund or participate on the new date.
    • If we cancel racing, we will refund the full entry fee to to all registered riders.
    • If we run racing, we will generally not refund a rider who does not participate for a reason outside of our control.
