Spring Gravity Enduro Series
Double Header Weekend

About

Jindabyne Cycling Club (JCC) in partnership with Jindabyne Trail Stewardship (JTS) are proud to host the second edition of the Jindabyne Spring Gravity Enduro Series at the Tyrolean MTB Park in East Jindabyne (Tyrolean Village). This is a community race series, aiming to raise funds for future racing, trail maintenance and athlete development through healthy competition.

This year we're running the series as a double header, with both Rounds on the same weekend. Registration and collection of timing chips from Race HQ at Echidna Place any time from 11am on the Saturday.

Round 1 Saturday, 02 November 2024 (afternoon - 12pm-4pm)
Round 2 Sunday, 03 November 2024 (morning - 9am-1pm)

Keep an eye out for details of JTS trailwork days planned around the Series to get the trails in mint condition.

A big shout out to our sponsors Sendy, Dharco, Pit Viper, Sacred Ride, Gravity Sports, Holly Go Lightly, Perisher and Snowy Monaro Regional Council for helping to make this possible.

Licencing Requirements

For insurance purposes, all riders need to be current race members of AusCycling (i.e. hold an annual race membership) or purchase an AusCycling Multi-day Licence at checkout. If this is your first time racing, you could also sign up for a trial licence on the AusCycling website.

AusCycling Multi-day Licence is available via tickbox at entry at a cost of $77 for the weekend. If you already hold an annual or trial race licence, please avoid ticking the Multi-day Licence option

Timing Chips

Timing chips will be issued when registering at RaceHQ on Saturday and must be returned on Sunday afternoon in Jindabyne (Poo Bay). There will be an intermediate check-in on Saturday afternoon at RaceHQ to log your results for the day and you'll need to visit us again on Sunday morning to switch your chip on for the day.

Our timing chips are NOT disposable -- they cost the club $140 each. We will pass that cost on to you if they are not returned on Sunday.

Rider Briefing Video

A Rider Briefing Video will be posted on this page on the Friday before the event. The video will provide an update on course conditions, important safety information and other last-minute race arrangements.

It is compulsory to watch the Rider Briefing Video and you will be asked to confirm you have done so when picking up your timing chip from RaceHQ.

Race Schedule

  • Registration from 11am at RaceHQ, Echidna Place, Tyrolean Village
  • Timing is live from 12pm-4pm on Saturday. The course reset will happen overnight and timing will be live on Sunday from 9am-1pm.
  • Presentation at Holly Go Lightly's in Jindabyne on Sunday 3 November (approx. 2pm).

When do I start the race? While registration and collection of timing chips can occur any time from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, we expect that most riders will take around 2 hours to complete all timed descents. Please allow ample time within the active timing window to collect your chip and ride all timed descents (and more time if you wish to ride descents more than once). On Sunday morning, remember to drop past RaceHQ to reactivate your timing chip.

Where do I park? Parking is available at RaceHQ at Echidna Place. This will be a combination of off-street and on-street parking. Round 2 will finish in Jindabyne, so consider a drop-off at RaceHQ and leaving a car at the Copper Tom trailhead in Poo Bay.

Race Courses

Detailed course maps are linked below and accessible through the TrailForks app.

Round 2 https://www.trailforks.com/route/jindabyne-spring-gravity-enduro-series-round-2/

The Series is a gravity enduro race format of untimed climbs and timed descents which can be attempted as many times as racers wish while timing is live. The exception to this is the shorter Jindabyne return courses in Round 2 which are 'one shot' because there is no safe return climb. Racers’ fastest time on each descent will be aggregated each afternoon and across the Series to provide a final result. There will be 3 to 4 timed descents available on each day of racing and all timed descents must be completed at least once to receive a result.

In setting the courses, we’re aiming to showcase the best that mountain biking the Tyrolean MTB Park has to offer. Courses will be approachable for riders with a low intermediate skill level and above, but all levels will find it challenging and fun thanks to A and B lines over and around difficult features. Courses include both flowing and technical terrain, taking in old favourite descents like Three Lions and the Pink Trail along with some more unusual lines.

As an AusCycling sanctioned 'Bronze' level event, the Series is subject to the rules and technical regulations applicable to the gravity enduro format of racing. More details on this are available here.

Racers must stick to the timed descents and approved climb trails -- there will be no vehicle shuttling and no riding up public roads (e.g. Rainbow Drive). Doing so will result in disqualification and risks jeapodising JCC's ability to hold similar events in the future. Courses may change at Chief Commissaire’s discretion due to weather and safety factors.

Race rules

NO.1 RULE – DON’T BE A JERK

  • Jindabyne is a small community and we’re fortunate to have many volunteers and local businesses supporting our event. Be positive, be nice and support them to support you.

  • Follow the directions of the Chief Commissaire and marshals. Commissaire’s decisions are final.

  • If you’re approaching a slower rider, give plenty of advance notice. The slower rider must yield when safe to do so.

  • Provide assistance to riders in need, particularly if you see a fall. We’re not racing for sheep stations here and you will get more than one shot at most of the timed descents. You can also restart an interrupted descent.

NO.2 RULE – BE SAFE OUT THERE

  • You must wear an AS2063 helmet whenever you’re on your bike. An open face helmet is fine, but we recommend a full-face helmet.

  • We recommend knee pads and covered elbows (ideally elbow pads).

  • Aim to be largely self-sufficient with food and water. JCC will have water at RaceHQ and some water and snacks around the course.

  • Your bike must be in good working order, particularly the brakes and tyres.

  • We recommend holding ambulance insurance so you're not out of pocket if an emergency response is required.
