Event Summary

Event Hell of the West
Club Sunbury Cycling Club
Race Director Colin Bell
Course The classic HotW course - including the infamous Glenmore Cutting Sorry, a recent course inspection revealed the climb to be in bad condition, including a patchwork of potholes covering the entire width of the road at the start of the climb.
The Granite Hill loop will be used instead. That includes the 3km dirt sector on Box Forest Rd each lap.

Format Graded Scratch Race
Race Notes
A second inspection of the dirt has been undertaken and we are good to go.
Note 1: The course has ~3km of dirt per lap.
Note 2: UNDER 17's & Under 15's. One of the rare races you can select your preferred grade. You will race a modified course which keeps you at tech reg distance (we pop you in when your grade comes through). You compete for a U15 or U17 podium place but get to roll turns and finish as normal. We normally do this on this circuit. It's a little unusual but a nice offering for more experienced juniors)
Note 3: U15 /U17 You need to run your age gearing. Please note this may mean you spin out on the Granite Hill descent and may struggle to hold the bunch. Please consider this prior to entry. Also please note: you definitely need to run junior gearing - that's a non-negotiable.

GENERAL

  • No License, No Race: - riders need a current license (or proof of renewal) to race. AusCycling accepted licenses only.
  • Red Light Policy: - The Northern Combine complies with AusCycling Victoria's red light policy. Riders are required to have a rear red light on solid to race. Spare lights may be available at Rego to borrow for riders who forget (no guarantee).
  • New to Racing: - AusCycling offer a 4 week trial license. Please see https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/free-trial
  • On-the-day Entries: Sorry, on-the-day entries are not accepted.
  • Announcements: - Please check the Northern Combine Facebook page, or the individual entryboss race page for any announcements regarding racing.

Women's Grades

  • Select races throughout the season will offer separate women's-only grades.
  • For most races, Women will start with an Open/Men's grade (combined start) but be recognised with separate Women's results and podium. This allows for a bunch race experience without the disadvantage of having to race men.
  • When combined starts are required, the Women's A bunch starts with C Grade, Women's B start with D grade.
  • WC start separately wherever possible.

  • Occasionally some women do wish to race in harder grades rather than with the Women's designated grade (for instance Men's B). This is entirely your own decision and something that is supported.

  • See https://northerncombinecycling.org/racing/women for more details on the Women's Series Points. In every race, every female who starts gets a point. The best 3 female finishers get extra points.

Voluntary Contribution

We visit the Balliang Hall a number of times during a season. We do a fundraiser at this event to give something back to that community. In the past, our contributions have helped repair flood damage in the kitchen after a broken pipe. Please consider adding a voluntary contribution to your race entry amount. 100% of these donations go back to the Balliang Hall committee, and the Northern Combine matches the amount donated by riders. Thanks.
