We are back at Cotter Pines for the first XC race of the season. We are changing up the course a bit compared to our race there last year, keeping the best bits but adding in some more overtaking opportunities
There are 4 rounds planned for 2024, in addition to the ACT Championships later in the year. These are fun races open to riders of a wide range of abilities. For XC racing some courses will be harder than others, and to make this clearer to everybody we have a grading system. Easy, for the flatter, less technical trails (think Sparrow hill), medium for courses that have more climbing and technical features (think some of heartbreaker and little seymour) and hard for courses that are, how do we say this, just hard…
Our grading concept is simple, and largely based on self selection, with a few rules:
Category | Target Race Time (First Rider) | Typical Lap Numbers | Limitations |
---|---|---|---|
A Grade Men | 1:15-1:30 | 5 | U17 & older only |
A Grade Women | 1:10-1:20 | 4 | U17 & older only |
B Grade Men | 1:10-1:20 | 4 | U15 & older only |
B Grade Women | 1:00-1:10 | 3 | U15 & older only |
C Grade Men | 1:00-1:10 | 3 | U15 & older only |
C Grade Women | 0:40-0:50 | 2 | U13 & older only |
D Grade Men | 0:40-0:50 | 2 | U13 & older only |
D Grade Women | 0:20-0:30 | 1 | |
E Grade Men | 0:20-0:30 | 1 |
Cotter Pines The course rating for this event is easy. It's a non technical course, but there's plenty of tight, loose corners that will reward good cornering technique!
A course map is below, Trailforks link is here
We've kept most of the sections we raced last time, but tweaked it a bit to include more overtaking overtaking. Note that we will be riding Cosmic Girl (lower) in the opposite direction to what we raced last time.
Parking will be outside the gate at Cotter Pines trailhead, link here.
