The Honeysuckle Hammer: Sprint for cash, climb for glory!
Who will lift the Hammer aloft this year and claim their place in climbing mythology?
The Honeysuckle Hammer has been widely used as the final preparation race before the Bright Brewery Tour of Bright, however with this year's TOB cancelled, it's the final chance to test your legs on a significantly long climb in a scratch race.
The course is tough but not too long so that racers can incorporate it into their taper program as suits - make it a big day out by adding extras or make it a shorter sharper one by driving out to the start.
Vikings Cycling Club and Canberra Cycling Club are again teaming up to bring you a combined road calendar for 2021. Each road race is the result of a collaborative effort from the two clubs.
By registering for this event you agree to act in accordance with our COVID Safety Plan.
Total registrations are in accordance with current group size requirements.
You must check in using the Check-In CBR app when you arrive at the event. Manual code 017707, QR code below
Course Start is the intersection of Smith’s Rd and Naas Road.
Course finish is near the top of the Honeysuckle Creek Nature Reserve.
VCC and CCC Season Numbers will be used at this event.
If you have been issued with a VCC or CCC season number ensure you arrive at the event with your number pinned and frame plate correctly fitted to your bike.
Non-VCC and CCC riders who participate will be issued a temporary number and plate that must be returned after the event.

Starting near the intersection of Smith’s Rd and Naas Road just south of Tharwa the course proceeds along Naas Road past the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre and over the Mount Tennent saddle heading towards the Apollo Road intersection.
Riders will do a hot dog turn around just before the Apollo Road intersection and return to the start line. From there it’s back out along Naas Road, a right turn in to Apollo Road and a longish climb up to the top of the Honeysuckle Creek Nature Reserve.
Sprint point will be just before the climb starts on Apollo Road.
Due to our approval restrictions the finish line will be before the entry to the campground – it will be well signposted. Be aware that there is a cattle grid to ride over while heading up the Honeysuckle climb. The full course distance is approximately 35 km.
E Graders, juniors and novices will not do the initial out and back loop – just go out to Apollo Rd and straight up the climb to the finish. This is approximately 18 km

Based on rider feedback men and women can register and ride in 'Open' grades.
There will be Open placings and Women's placings for each grade.

The 2021 Road season is run by volunteers from the CCC and VCC, but members from other clubs are welcome to volunteer and support racing in the ACT as well as receive the volunteer incentives set out below.
Volunteers will receive the following incentives at eligible 2021 Road Events:
To be eligible to claim free entry you must have nominated and been allocated to a race.
Use this form to nominate for a race.
Once you have nominated and been allocated to a race in a volunteer role you are free to use your free race entries at any eligible road race. Just hit the 'Volunteer Status Claimed' check box when you are registering.
Remember - it is a trust system. Please only claim volunteer entry if you have done your part to help the clubs as above. Save us the admin of having to cancel your entry if you have not nominated to volunteer, or if you have already used your volunteer credits.
*Excludes ACT Champs events
Can I volunteer for a race later in the season, but claim my free race now?
You are expected to complete your volunteer duty on the date(s) you nominate in the season. If you've nominated and been assigned to volunteer at a race in the future you can still claim the appropriate number of free races before you've volunteered.
Can I volunteer and race on the same day?
Race Director, Assistant Race Director, & Turn Marshall: You cannot race on the day you perform your duty unless you arrange for someone else (ie a friend or relative) to perform your duty on your behalf (must be as capable and willing as you are).
Other Roles (check-in desk, set up, pack up, van/trailer driver etc): You are welcome to volunteer and race on the same day. Just make sure you arrive at the race with enough time to do your job. Once that's done then get ready and race.
How do I claim my free race?
Just tick the 'volunteer status claimed' box when you register for a race. Make sure that you include a quick comment in the entry remarks box explaining which race you are claiming the free entry for. That makes it easy for us to manage.
To ensure that we have a record of all participants registration is only via EntryBoss.
