Cancelled - Again

No, not joking. We're on a loop. The current and predicted rainfall through to Sunday means that ACT Parks and Conservation Service have closed the area the race was to be held in.

Everyone will get a full refund like last time. We'll announce a new date soon.

Blue Range Rebooted

We're excited to announce that the BentSpoke Brewing Gravel Grand Tour - Blue Range will now also incorporate the ACT Gravel Champs.

Gravel GT 3 - Blue Range!

COVID-19 ADVICE

Total registrations are in accordance with current group size requirements.

You must check in using the Check-In CBR app when you arrive at the event. Manual code 017707, QR code below

The Champs

Welcome to the final round! Who will be ACT Gravel Champion?

Sponsored by BentSpoke Brewing, this is now the final gravel event in our COVID curtailed season. That we've even been able to get the required approvals at such short notice is a miracle!

The formula is the same...different lengths to cater for different abilities. As usual, the event will be catered reflecting the relaxed nature of Gravel Cycling.

  • Championship Event: 65km, 1500vm - all the scenic bits
  • Long Timed Participation Event: see above (no medal options)
  • Shorter Timed Participation Event: 41km, 1000vm - lots of scenic bits (no medal options)

To be eligible for Championship medals, you must enter with an AusCycling 'Race Off-Road' or 'Race All Discipline' licence. Lifestyle, 1 day, 7 day, and 4 week trials will not be eligible for medal categories.

The ACT Championship Age Categories to be contested in the Championship Event include:

  • Men and Women, U17, U19, U23, Elite, Masters 1 - 9

The champs are happening on Sunday 7 November of July at 10am.

It is a timed participation event and it’s fully catered. Prizes, refreshments, and merch will be provided BentSpoke Brewing.

CCC & VCC

Combined Calendar

Vikings Cycling Club and Canberra Cycling Club are again teaming up to bring you a combined road calendar for 2021. Each road race is the result of a collaborative effort from the two clubs.

Event Information

  • Format - Timed participation event. Everyone is welcome. Come and have fun!
  • Event Staff - As per the Volunteer Roster
  • Results - my.raceresult.com
  • Feedback - We want your feedback - Complete our feedback form each week after the race.

Location

Course start/finish is the intersection of Bullock Paddock Road and Brindabella Road.

Venue Info

Food and coffee will be available at the event.

Toilets

Located at Uriarra Picnic Area or the Cotter.

Ensure that you make a tactical stop on your way to the event as the toilets at Blue Range Hut are closed.

Strictly no 'toileting' on the course as the event is within an ACT water catchment area. Our continued use of these areas for our events depends on our adherence to this requirement.

VCC and CCC Season Numbers

VCC and CCC Season Numbers will be used at this event.

Frame Plates Only

If you have been issued with a VCC or CCC season number ensure you arrive at the event with your frame plate correctly fitted to your bike.

Cloth numbers are not required.

Non-VCC and CCC riders who participate will be issued a temporary plate that must be returned after the event.

Course

The course features some of the best gravel roads Canberra has to offer. The highlights include Sinclairs Circuit, with spectacular Cotter Dam views, Old Mine Road Climb, and Sherwood Forest with the remnants of the old Sherwood station.

A midpoint fuel stop will be available with coffee and food.

Riders are all requested to load the course into their GPS. If you are unsure how to do this, please contact the organisers for assistance. Signage and arrows will be limited.

You will encounter closed gates. Some of the roads are in the Lower Cotter Catchment Area which is a protected area with no vehicle access allowed. Special approvals have been granted to allow the event, but on the condition that the gates stay shut.

Roads are open to the public and riders are required to keep left at all times. Some of the course is 2-way cycling traffic, and a short section of the course requires you to cross Uriarra Rd. As always, take great care on the roads, obey all traffic rules, and don’t sacrifice safety for the sake of 2 seconds saved.

Licences

AusCycling 'LifeStyle', 'Race Off-Road', or 'Race All Discipline' memberships are required for the participation event.

An AusCycling 'Race All Discipline' or 'Race Off-Road' licence is required to contest a championship category.

No licence?

Not to worry! If you are eligible you can take out a 4-week free trial or sign up for a one or 7 day event licence.

Unfortunately, we can't accept other types of non AusCycling cycling insurance/membership.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct licence. This will be verified at registration and at check-in.

Bikes

The course is suitable for Cyclocross, Gravel and Mountain Bikes, although if you're feeling particularly adventurous you can bring your Road Bike too.

Everyone's welcome!

In short, ride whatever you want, but gearing will help with some of the hills. And while the roads are in great condition, a road bike would be hard work.

Event Schedule

Final start times will be posted to the Start List here on EntryBoss once entries close.

Exact times will be reviewed on the day depending on numbers and weather conditions.

Be sure to confirm your start time at check-in.

To manage our responsibilities we have organised the event into the following groups.

  2. Session 2 - Long Event
  3. Session 3 - Short Event

When you register please select the group that is the best fit for you.

Volunteers

The 2021 Road season is run by volunteers from the CCC and VCC, but members from other clubs are welcome to volunteer and support racing in the ACT as well as receive the volunteer incentives set out below.

Volunteers will receive the following incentives at eligible 2021 Road Events:

  • Each time you volunteer as a Race Director - 2 free race entries
  • Each time you volunteer in another capacity - 1 free race entry

To be eligible to claim free entry you must have been nominated and been allocated to a race.

Use this form to nominate for a race.

Once you have nominated and been allocated to a race in a volunteer role you are free to use your free race entries at any eligible road race. Just hit the 'Volunteer Status Claimed' check box when you are registering.

Remember - it is a trust system. Please only claim volunteer entry if you have done your part to help the clubs as above. Save us the admin of having to cancel your entry if you have not nominated to volunteer, or if you have already used your volunteer credits.

Volunteer FAQ

Can I volunteer for a race later in the season, but claim my free race now?

You are expected to complete your volunteer duty on the date(s) you nominate in the season. If you've nominated and been assigned to volunteer at a race in the future you can still claim the appropriate number of free races before you've volunteered.

Can I volunteer and race on the same day?

Race Director, Assistant Race Director, & Turn Marshall: You cannot race on the day you perform your duty unless you arrange for someone else (ie a friend or relative) to perform your duty on your behalf (must be as capable and willing as you are).

Other Roles (check-in desk, set up, pack up, van/trailer driver etc): You are welcome to volunteer and race on the same day. Just make sure you arrive at the race with enough time to do your job. Once that's done then get ready and race.

How do I claim my free race?

Just tick the 'volunteer status claimed' box when you register for a race. Make sure that you include a quick comment in the entry remarks box explaining which race you are claiming the free entry for. That makes it easy for us to manage.
