Important:
The Pt Noarlunga Classic and Blackchrome Velo Grand Prix, presented by Nowood Cycling Club.
This event will include multiple races, including graded senior criteriums, the pt Noarlunga Wheelrace and the Velo Grand Prix, giving riders the opportunity to race multiple times over the day.
The Pt Noarlunga Classic will be run and won as a wheel race this year, notching up another consecutive year for the event. Winners of the men’s women’s and junior events will lift the mother of all trophies on the podium at Victoria Park on 14th November.
For those that never raced the Whitmore Sq Wheelrace in the past, it is a handicapped, held clipped in standing start, 1200m* sprint to the line (*depending on your handicap mark). The race will have 40-50 participants, with 4-5 riders starting off each handicap mark. Limit riders will start with close to a 200m head start. Often riders work together to try hold of the scratch (A grade) riders. Likewise scratch will often have riders that sacrifice themselves to close down the limit riders. Fast and exciting the winner often takes the lead in the final moments of the race.
Mens Graded criterium qualification events will be raced in the morning, with the top 10 in A-D grade qualifying for the Men’s classic wheel race. Top 10-20, qualify for the men’s consolation Wheelrace.
Women criterium’s will be run in the morning to qualify for the women’s Wheelrace and set the marks (handicaps).
Junior criterium's race will be run to qualify for the Junior Classic Wheelrace.
The Blackchrome Velo Grand Prix will be the final epic event of the day. The fast pace heated knock out event sees 4 riders going head to head on a short hotdog course in-front of the grand stand. It will be a great opportunity to put down the last watts left in your legs or get on the barriers to cheer on friends, family and competitors.
A family friendly day in the park, there will be food, beverages, music and plenty of racing. Teams and clubs are encourage to set up tents for their riders on the infield for the days carnival of racing.
The Port Noarlunga Handicap will have a new home for 2022, so this is a once off opportunity to race the Port Noarlunga Wheelrace!
