Due to the rapidly changing environment, we request that only local ACT residents attend our winter road events.
For the latest advice refer to the travel advisories from the ACT Government and your state or territory government.
By registering for this event you agree to act in accordance with these requirements.
To allow us to remain under the 100 people total group size requirement, rider registrations are now limited to 100 total. No limits on grade size. First in best dressed.
3 different gravel events in Canberra with 3 distinct flavours culminating in our inaugural Gravel Championships for 2020.
The second of the three-part series is happening on the 20th of September at 10am.
This will be a timed participation event and it’s fully catered. The 13km course has been set adjacent to Stromlo Forest Park. The event format is a 2 or 3 hour Criterium. Think of it as a bit like a dirty Kermesse.
If you are in the Challenge segment, your time is 2 hours to do as many laps as possible. For the faster folks, your time is 3 hours to complete your laps. As long as you start your last lap prior to the finish time, you are free to finish your last lap and it counts.
At the end, your lap count and finish time will be used to determine the results.
Course start/finish is here on Uriarra Road.
Parking at the start is limited and riders are encouraged to park safely at the main Stromlo Forest Car park on Dave McInnes Road.
The course follows a 13km loop around the fire roads to the west of Stromlo Forest Park.
The first half rolls mostly down to the lowest point on the course...watch your speed on some of the descents. The second half is dominated by a climb to the southern most point before another flying descent through and old weather station.
The last section uses the fire road that’s appropriately called Terminal Velocity before looping back to the start...and off you go again!
Cycling Australia Ride or MTBA equivalent licences will be accepted for this event.
If you don't have a licence we suggest that you take out a monthly Ride or Ride Basic membership. From less than $10 a month, its is the most cost-effective way to get third party insurance.
The course is suitable for Cyclocross, Gravel and Mountain Bikes, although if you're feeling particularly adventurous you can bring your Road Bike too.
Everyone's welcome!
In short, ride whatever you want, but gearing will help with some of the hills. And while the roads are in great condition, a road bike would be hard work.
