Woolgoolga MTB Club Downhill Race Nov 2 - 3, 2024

Saturday Practice & Sunday Racing

Please read all of this page to find out about the race, the schedule and requirements for race entry.

About

Downhill at Mt Coramba is back! After an epic rebuild, thanks to Josh Button (Trailnet), this awesome track is back on the calendar for racing. It's faster than ever and there's a lot of new features and terrain to master. Make sure you get plenty of practice to learn the all the new stuff and find your best lines.

Shuttles for Saturday practice, Sunday practice, qualifying and racing are included in your entry fee. If you can't make it on Saturday, there is an option to skip Saturday practice and reduce your entry fee.

Please tick the Sat practice $30 option when you register so you can practice all day Saturday.
If you can't make Saturday - register for the race, then if your situation changes, you can still practice Saturday, please bring $30 cash with you to pay on the day.

Note: there is no self shuttling. Only the official shuttle service provided by Granted Ride will get you to the top.

First time downhill racer? Not been to Mt Coramba?

Mt Coramba downhill has B-Lines (easier options) for all the big jumps and features, so if you haven't raced downhill before or haven't ridden Mt. Coramba you can still race. Every downhill racer started somewhere and Mt. Coramba is one of the easier downhill tracks you will find. You will still be challenged! As you learn the track you'll decide which features you want to do and which ones to B-Line. This is a downhill race - you don't have to pedal to the start line. The official shuttle service will take you and your bike up the hill. If you are not sure if your bike is suitable for this race, ask your local bike shop for some advice, or talk to someone who is familiar with downhill racing.

Keep driving up Mount Coramba Road until you start to see parked cars. As you head up, please only park on the left hand side of Mount Coramba Road and ensure you do not block access for emergency vehicles and other road users. Be careful when parking! There are drops off the side of the road in some sections. There are 2-3 small clearings to the side of the road, and these can also be used for parking.

We will be closing the road at the race village from early Saturday morning until late Sunday afternoon. Race officials and the official shuttle service will be allowed access, as will emergency, Forestry and telecoms vehicles.

License Requirements

You need a Race Off Road AusCycling membership/license to participate in this event. There are several options for this:

  • Free, 4 week trial membership. Note, you cannot get this if you have had one in the last 2 years.
  • Event license: Can get either a 1 day or 7 day membership. Important: A 1 day membership MUST be fore race day (3rd Nov). You will not be covered (by the insurance the membership gives) for practice day (2nd Nov). In this case we strongly recommend that you take out 1 day of additional insurance - Flip insurance is recommended as it has mountain bike specific insurance and is low cost (from $7/day) - to cover practice on Saturday. If you are getting a 1 day event license, you must get it on race day (Nov 3rd) and then provide your license number at the timing/registration desk.
  • Annual license: Must be the Race Off Road membership. Best suited to riders competing in many events.
  • Note there are cheaper options for younger riders, at the annual Level. It may be more cost effective if you plan to do 2+ races in the next year to take out an annual membership.

Coffs Harbour area locals - if you are getting a membership for the first time, including a trial membership, please choose Woolgoolga MTB as your club. Thanks!

Prior to entering, please ensure your EntryBoss Profile has the correct information especially your AusCycling membership details:

  • Membership Number
  • Membership Category

Camping

Mt Coramba downhill is located in state forest and you can camp for free. Please be aware of the conditions of camping relating to fire danger:

Respect the land, other campers and please take all rubbish with you or to the race village bin.

There are several spots along Mount Coramba Road with a bit more space that are more suitable for camping. It is suggested you camp below/before the race village so you are free to come and go as needed.

If you camp above/after the race village, the road will be closed for much of Saturday and Sunday, except for officials, the shuttles and other emergency and essential vehicles. You can of course leave if there is an emergency but we can't have private vehicles going up and down the hill with shuttle vans towing large trailers also doing the same. Alternatively, if you camp above the race village, (for example at the creek gap jump), just park your car each morning below the road closure before 7:30am.

There are no camping facilities except for portable toilets at the race village, which will arrive late Friday afternoon. Please bring your own water.
