We're super excited to announce our first combined VCC CCC road event of the year - the Alivio Tourist Park Twilight Gravel Ride.
This will be a family-friendly untimed participation event starting at the Alivio Tourist Park, and taking in some great gravel roads and goat tracks through Bruce and O'Connor Ridges.
After the ride, VCC and CCC will jointly launch the 2023 Alivio Tourist Park road season, including announcing some of the cool stuff we've got planned, hand out awards for our 2022 Alivio Tourist Park Road Season Points winners, and shout all registered participants to a pizza buffet on Alivio's awesome Verandah.
Alivio, VCC and CCC are going to look after you.
Your $10 gets you:
We ask that you buy your own drinks.
If other non riding family or friends are coming please select the 'Meal Only' option when you register them.
The Alvio restaurant will also be operating, so you're welcome to buy a full blown dinner if pizza doesn't float your boat. You can see their menu here.
The Canberra and Vikings Cycling Clubs are proud to announce that this year's road season will again be sponsored by Alivio Tourist Park.
VCC and CCC are teaming up to bring you a combined road calendar for 2023. Each road race is the result of a collaborative effort from the two clubs, and supported by Alivio.
Course Start is the Alvio Tourist Park.
These are suggested routes. The courses are not marked and other users will be in Bruce and O'Connor ridges. We suggest you get a few friends or family together and ride the route that works for you. Then come and have a bite and a drink at Alivio afterwards.
Gravel and Goat Tracks - 8.15km - Select Long Course when registering
Just the Gravel - 3.79km - Select Short Course when registering
Starting at Alivio Tourist Park the course climbs some steep grades (20% plus - gearing will be crucial) before cruising along Reservoir Ridge Fire Trail for some great views back across Canberra. Riders then pick up some speed on the Bruce Ridge Fire Trail before a couple of quick dog legs, and a mandatory dismount to cross the Bruce Ridge Bike Path. The Northern Section of the trail is a series of tight and sweeping goat tracks that take in some of the best trails on O'Connor Ridge.
Riders then dismount again to cross the bike path, before enjoying a rolling section of the Bruce Pipeline Fire Trail to return to the start.
Riders can choose to do 1 or 2 laps.
Riders complete just the 'Gravel' section of the course and do not cross the bike path. 1 or 2 laps.
The climb out of Alivio Tourist Park to the Reservoir Ridge Fire Trail is steep. Inexperienced riders may need to walk their bikes on this section.
The course is suitable for Cyclocross, Gravel and Mountain Bikes, although if you're feeling particularly adventurous you can bring your Road Bike too.
Everyone's welcome!
In short, ride whatever you want, but gearing will help with some of the hills. And while the roads are in great condition, a road bike would be hard work.
Other park users, including walkers and riders, may be in the Nature Reserves.
We ask that all participants give way to other park users.
If you are driving to Alivio please park on the Dryandra St gravel car park to the North of Kunzea St and ride or walk the short distance to Alivio.
To ensure that we have a record of all participants registration is only via EntryBoss.
AusCycling 'Lifestyle' or better licences are required for this event.
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct licence. This will be verified when you register.
