Race Distances For riders graded as A, B ,C or D the race will be run over 2 laps of the 28km course (56km total distance). This includes U17 riders. Riders graded as E or F, and U15 riders who have been endorsed to ride in Hamilton road events will compete in a separate handicap race run over 1 lap of the 28km course. The shorter course is due to distance restrictions for juniors, and to suit E&F grade riders who may not wish to race two laps.
Eligibility - Riders with eligible AusCycling race licences are invited to race (all clubs invited). 'Lifestyle' and 'Non-Riding' licences not accepted. Riders must have a Hamilton Wheelers grading - details - http://www.hamiltonwheelers.com/general-info/club-grading-list. U15 riders who have been endorsed by Hamilton Wheelers to race in our road events will race in the separate 1 lap handicap race with E&F graded riders.
Course - Each lap is 28km of rolling hills, starting at Elimbah, travelling along Twin View Rd, turning left at Powell Rd, onto King Rd, then Boden Rd with the turn-around on Alcock Rd. These roads are not closed to general traffic. All Queensland road rules apply. Do not cut corners or cross white lines.
The turnaround for grades doing 2 laps is near the finish line on Twin View Road at Elimbah. Turnarounds are marked with a witches hat and are attended by a flag marshal.
Start/Finish - Start in the carpark of Elimbah State School. Finish line is on Twin View Road.
Registration - At the park on Twin View Rd from 7.30am and closes at 8.05am. Riders who miss the compulsory commissaire's briefing will not be allowed to start. Riders should display their number patches on their left side.
Handicap Race - This is a handicap race - not graded races. Club handicappers will allocate start times for each rider. Riders will start in small groups at various intervals with the aim of all riders having a reasonable chance to win.
Enter in your regular grade to help with initial groupings and then please provide as much info as possible to assist with handicapping. Results and times from recent or previous events (especially this one), ITT times, average speeds etc will all help. Not providing enough info will mean you are placed on or near scratch.
Race Rules - The drafting of riders from different start times is allowed at all stages of the race. Racing is conducted under the auspices of AusCycling rules and regulations. Normal road rules apply, you must ride no more than two abreast unless passing. Do not cross solid lines, obey all road rules. Marshalls cannot stop traffic.
Enter ASAP - Please add any remarks in the info box when entering that may assist the handicappers determining your start time (such as names of other club members who you believe are at about the same level as yourself).
Enter as soon as possible to give our handicappers a better chance of determining fair start times...you don't want to make the handicappers angry with you if you enter late! If you need to scratch yourself after entering, please be fair to other riders and do it as early as possible.
EntryBoss Entry - Please make sure your current AusCycling licence number is registered with EntryBoss before entering. Do not use a previous licence number. If you are racing with a 'Come and Try' or 'One Day' licence, please state that in the comments section of your entry application.
Licences - Riders should have their AusCycling licences available for checking. Please have your digital licence ready or printed email ready to show if required. To obtain your digital licence - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lOQwgx7wMiXIUzZ8ud5GuDWLpMjhfh1P/view
Prizes - Prizes are proportional to entry numbers and awarded to the first 3 places + fastest time + first unplaced female.
Race Scratchings - If riders find they are unable to race after entering HWCC races, they may 'scratch' themselves up to 5am on normal race days, 3pm for Twilight races and up to 7pm the night before handicap races - the entry fee will be refunded. Click on the 'Scratch' button on the EntryBoss event page. Please note that there is a very small cost to the club due to unrecoverable merchant fees, whenever riders' scratch themselves.
Wet-weather Policy - A decision to cancel due to poor weather will only made by the Chief Commissaire with announcements made via the club's social pages. Generally, we race in all weather, except heavy rain or if there are sheets of water on the road surface. Any decision on cancellation will be made as early as possible.
All race entry fees will be refunded if races are cancelled.
This event will be conducted using the current guidelines or rules established by Queensland Government, the Queensland Health Officer, AIS, AusCycling Australia and AusCycling Queensland.
