Welcome to the BentSpoke Brewing Gravel GT. We're running a range of different gravel events in Canberra with distinct flavours each time, culminating in our 2021 Gravel Championships.
The first of the series is happening on the 16th of May at 10am. The course is 35km with over 1000m vertical metres of climbing which will test all riders. A longer course will be available for the masochists (closer to 50km and 1500vm!).
Along the way you will be surprised by the views and road conditions of Canberra’s managed pine plantations, no doubt.
This will be a timed participation event and it’s fully catered.
Vikings Cycling Club and Canberra Cycling Club are again teaming up to bring you a combined road calendar for 2021. Each road race is the result of a collaborative effort from the two clubs.
For the latest advice refer to the travel advisories from the ACT Government and your state or territory government.
By registering for this event you agree to act in accordance with these requirements.
Total registrations are in accordance with current requirements. No limits on grade size. First in best dressed.
Course start/finish is at the intersection of Paddy’s River Road and Laurel Camp Road.
Don’t be tricked by the 35km length. This course will test everybody.
Starting with a gentle meander parallel to Paddy’s River Road, riders will get to the site of the famed, but now closed, Mineshaft, a fearsome challenge for rally drivers of the past, before starting the first climb. At the top, the next 10km provide a rolling descent down to the mid-point refuel with some scenic spots that provide amazing views over to the Tidbinbilla Tracking Station and the majestical (yes it’s a word...look it up) Bullen Range. Coffee and food will be available here to recharge for the next section which takes you near the top of the Tidbinbilla Range and to the highest point on the course. We then track north on some amazingly smooth roads (with some ups and downs) before we end up at the top of Pipeline Road. The descent to the water crossing at Pierces Creek will be one of the highlights before the last 5km to the finish and a welcome hot meal and a drink.
The longer course adds an additional 15km and 500vm.

AusCycling Lifestyle or better memberships are required for this event.
That includes 'LifeStyle', 'Race Off-Road', and 'Race All Discipline'.
It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct licence. This will be verified at registration and at check-in.
Unfortunately, we can't accept other types of non AusCycling cycling insurance/membership. Not to worry, though, if you are eligible you can take out a 4-week free trial or sign up for a one or 7 day event licence.
The course is suitable for Cyclocross, Gravel and Mountain Bikes, although if you're feeling particularly adventurous you can bring your Road Bike too.
Everyone's welcome!
In short, ride whatever you want, but gearing will help with some of the hills. And while the roads are in great condition, a road bike would be hard work.
Final start times will be posted to the Start List here on EntryBoss once entries close.
Exact times will be reviewed on the day depending on numbers and weather conditions.
Be sure to confirm your start time at check-in.
To manage our responsibilities we have organised the event into the following groups.
When you register please select the group that is the best fit for you.
Please adhere to these timings on the day.
Session | Check-in | Rider Briefing | Roll away |
1 | 9.30 - 9.45 | 9.50 | 10.00am |
2 | 9.45 - 10.00 | 10.05 | 10.10am |
Parking at the start is limited and riders are encouraged to park safely on either side of Paddy’s River Road, or at the Cotter Reserve 3km away.
The 2021 Road season is run by volunteers from the CCC and VCC, but members from other clubs are welcome to volunteer and support racing in the ACT as well as receive the volunteer incentives set out below.
Volunteers will receive the following incentives at eligible 2021 Road Events:
To be eligible to claim free entry you must have nominated and been allocated to a race.
Use this form to nominate for a race.
Once you have nominated and been allocated to a race in a volunteer role you are free to use your free race entries at any eligible road race. Just hit the 'Volunteer Status Claimed' check box when you are registering.
Remember - it is a trust system. Please only claim volunteer entry if you have done your part to help the clubs as above. Save us the admin of having to cancel your entry if you have not nominated to volunteer, or if you have already used your volunteer credits.
Can I volunteer for a race later in the season, but claim my free race now?
You are expected to complete your volunteer duty on the date(s) you nominate in the season. If you've nominated and been assigned to volunteer at a race in the future you can still claim the appropriate number of free races before you've volunteered.
Can I volunteer and race on the same day?
Race Director, Assistant Race Director, & Turn Marshall: You cannot race on the day you perform your duty unless you arrange for someone else (ie a friend or relative) to perform your duty on your behalf (must be as capable and willing as you are).
Other Roles (check-in desk, set up, pack up, van/trailer driver etc): You are welcome to volunteer and race on the same day. Just make sure you arrive at the race with enough time to do your job. Once that's done then get ready and race.
How do I claim my free race?
Just tick the 'volunteer status claimed' box when you register for a race. Make sure that you include a quick comment in the entry remarks box explaining which race you are claiming the free entry for. That makes it easy for us to manage.
To ensure that we have a record of all participants registration is only via EntryBoss.
NO ‘ON THE DAY’ REGISTRATION
Upon arrival please confirm your attendance at the check-in desk (including collecting a number and timing chip) and then move clear of the check-in desk area.
A rider briefing, count and roll call will be conducted before each grade roll away. Please be ready when your grade is called.
At the end of each grade riders must return their number and timing chip and then clear the start/finish line area to maintain social distancing requirements.
Results will be posted to my.raceresult.com.
If any rider exhibits COVID-19 symptoms in the two weeks following the race, they must advise the COVID-19 Officer who will follow up with health authorities.
