COASTAL 4/8HR MTB EVENT - SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER

RIDE THE DAY AND NIGHT 🌞🌙

Get ready for one of the best social MTB events of the year!

2026 Theme – Cowboys & Indians 🤠

Choose your challenge — 4 hours or 8 hours of riding.

Ride solo or grab your mates and form a team of 2, 3 or 4 riders.

Teams can be:

• Mixed
• Male
• Female
• Junior
• Mixed Senior / Junior

This event is all about good trails, good mates and a great atmosphere.

There are no sheep stations on the line here — we're racing for bragging rights!

We'll still record lap times and you'll be able to see who punched out the fastest laps, but there are no traditional 1st, 2nd or 3rd podium prizes.

Instead, thanks to our awesome local supporters, we'll have plenty of random prizes and lucky draws throughout the event.

And most importantly...

PRIZES FOR THE BEST DRESSED RIDERS & TEAMS!

So get into the 2026 Cowboys & Indians theme, get creative with your team name and come ready for a great day and night on the bike.

HOW IT WORKS

For teams, one rider completes a lap before handing over to their next teammate.

Then the next rider heads out for a lap, and the team continues rotating riders until the event finishes.

• Riders can complete multiple laps.
• Every rider in a team must complete at least one lap.
• Riders do not have to complete the same number of laps.
• All laps must be completed before the event finishing time.
• If the event finishes while you're still out on course, that lap will not count.

Simple — ride, tag your teammate, repeat!

REGISTRATION INFO

Entry is only $25 per rider

You DO NOT need an AusCycling licence to enter.

This is a social MTB event. Lap timing will still be recorded, so you'll be able to check your lap times and see who recorded the fastest lap.

Ebikes are Welcome

However, there are no 1st, 2nd or 3rd podium prizes.

Instead, we'll be giving out random prizes to riders throughout the event!

Registering a Team

Each rider registers individually through EntryBoss.

The first person registering for your team should enter your Team Name.

Once the team name has been created, other riders will be able to select it from the team drop-down menu when they register.

You don't all need to register at the same time.

We'll sort and confirm teams before racing.

If you don't have a full team, don't worry — we may be able to combine riders into a team, or you can ride individually.

New to EntryBoss?

If you haven't created an EntryBoss account before, you'll be asked to select a Membership Type / Governing Body.

If you don't have an MTB or road cycling licence, simply select N/A from the drop-down menu. This will allow you to create your account and enter the event.

EVENT LOCATION

Cairns MTB Club – Main Trailhead
McGregor Road, Smithfield

The Pony Express Start / Finish Zone will be located in the main car park, which will be closed to vehicles during the event.

Parking will be available along McGregor Road or down at the first JCU car park.

You can drive up to the clubhouse before the event to drop off tents, marquees, chairs and riding gear. Once unloaded, please move your vehicle to the designated parking areas and ride or walk back to the event zone.

SET UP YOUR TEAM BASE

There will be plenty of room for marquees around the main car park and pump track Start / Finish area.

Bring your:

• Marquee (space is first in, best dressed)
• Chairs
• Camp lights
• Spare floodlights
• Riding gear
• Team decorations

Set yourself up close to the rider changeover area and soak up the atmosphere.

Camp lights and spare floodlights are highly recommended once the sun goes down.

BBQ, BEERS & WINE 🍔

BBQ & DRINKS – 4PM TO 9PM

You don't have to be racing to come along!

Bring the family out, watch the racing, ride the pump track, grab a snag and enjoy the evening.

The Cairns MTB Club will have the BBQ cranking, with plenty of food available throughout the afternoon and evening.

Cash and card payments available.

NO BYO ALCOHOL

No BYO alcoholic drinks are permitted at the event.

The event will run from approximately 11:00am until 8:00pm.

Sunset is around 6:00pm, so riders will get the full Ride the Day and Night experience!

Trail Grade: Green / Blue

Short, fast and fun! A course that's not overly technical, but with enough variety to keep things interesting.

The course will be fully marked before the event.

NIGHT LAPS 🌙

Sunset is around 6:00pm, so riders heading out after dark MUST have suitable helmet/head and handlebar lights.

8HR RIDERS

Keep your eyes open — the course may change once or twice during the event to mix things up and keep the riding interesting.

Final course details and any changes will be covered at the rider briefing.

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT

All riders must have:

• Approved cycling helmet -**Suitable working MTB
• Helmet/head light for night laps
• Handlebar light for night laps

No suitable lights = no night lap.

Come down, set up around the event village, cheer on your mates, ride the pump track and enjoy the BBQ, beers, wine and night-racing atmosphere.
