We are pleased to announce a 3-stage tour happening over the June long weekend. We've take the original and best Canberra institution and turned it into a stage race.

The race that makes walking the next day something to be feared.

This event is held in memory of club hardman from the early eighties, Mike Paral.

Mike was formerly of the Canberra Old Boys (COBACC) who merged with the Canberra Wests to form the Canberra Cycling Club. Mike died in March 1983. Previously a handicap, and then a stand-alone scratch race, this year the Iron Mike will be part of a stage race.

Three stages of racing over two action-packed days.


  • Stage 1: Mt Stromlo iTT Hill Climb
  • Stage 2: SFP Crit


  • Stage 3: Iron Mike Road Race

Stage 1 - Hill Climb

Mt Stromlo Road Hill Climb - Individual Time Trial - Road Bikes Only

Registration for this stage is in front of the SFP pavilion. Riders are to arrive well in advance of their listed start time to check in and attach their number and timing plate. Riders may warm up on the Criterium Circuit from 7am until 10 minutes prior to the start of stage 2.

Riders are to move to the start location no later than 5 minutes before their listed start time.

Riders may move to the start location via the dirt road accessed from the southern end of the criterium circuit or on open roads via Swallowtail and Cotter Rds.

Stage 2 - SFP Crit

To be eligible to start this stage riders must have completed Stage 1: Hill Climb.

Registration for this stage is in front of the SFP pavilion.

Time Bonuses: 1st 10s, 2nd 6s, 3rd 4s

Stage 3 - Iron Mike Road Race

To be eligible to start this stage riders must have completed Stage 2: SFP Crit.

Registration for this stage is at the upper deck of the SFP Pavilion. Riders will be briefed and marshaled undercover on the pavilion and will roll (neutral) to the timing point at SFP West Carpark where racing will commence. After completing the race riders are to leave the course and return to the SFP pavilion to return race numbers / verify completion of the race and await results and presentations.

Riders will ride through Uriarra Crossing and along Brindabella Rd to the end of the bitumen and return to start/finish. Each lap is approx. 50 km

Time Bonuses: 1st 10s, 2nd 6s, 3rd 4s

All Grades Rider Briefing 945

First Grade Roll Away 10.00am


Based on rider feedback men and women can register and ride in 'Open' grades.

There will be Open placings and Women's placings for each grade.


Juniors will race distances that are in line with the AusCycling Technical regulations.

Max distances are:

  • U11/U13 - 20km
  • U15 - 40km
  • U17 - 70km

This race is taking place on open roads. If you are entering a junior rider we recommend that you discuss their capability to participate in the event with the Commissaire and Race Director before the race starts.

Junior Rollout requirements apply and will be checked as per the AusCycling policy.

Season Numbers

VCC and CCC Season Numbers will be used at this event.

Frame Plates and 1x Cloth Number

If you have been issued with a VCC or CCC season number ensure you arrive at the event with your number pinned and frame plate correctly fitted to your bike.

Non-VCC and CCC riders who participate will be issued a temporary number and plate that must be returned after the event.


Please ensure that all vehicles are parked off the road if parking on the verge. All vehicles are to be kept well clear of the start/finish area.

The 2023 Alivio Tourist Park Road Series is run by volunteers from the CCC and VCC, but members from other clubs are welcome to volunteer and support racing in the ACT as well as receive the volunteer incentives set out below.

Volunteers will receive the following incentives at eligible 2023 Road Events:

  • Volunteer two or more times in a non Race Director capacity - access to $10 race entry per race *
  • Race Director once in the season - next race free, access to $10 race entry per race *
  • Race Director two or more times - access the whole season of racing for free *

To be eligible to claim these benefits you must have nominated and been allocated to a race.

*Excludes ACT Champs events

AusCycling Race All Discipline licences are required for this event.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct licence. This will be verified when you register here.

If your licence has expired or otherwise has an issue we reserve the right to scratch you from the race.

No licence?

Not to worry! If you are eligible you can take out a 4-week free trial or sign up for a one or 7 day event licence.

Unfortunately, we can't accept other types of non AusCycling cycling insurance/membership.

On the Day

  1. Upon arrival please confirm your attendance at the check-in desk and then move clear of the check-in desk area.

  2. A rider briefing, count and roll call will be conducted before each grade roll away. Please be ready when your grade is called.

  3. At the end of each grade ALL riders must visit the desk to confirm that they have returned from the course, and return temporary numbers and tags.

  4. Placegetters please wait for presentations and photos.

Scratching and Cancellation

  • Scratching - Scratching is a self-serve, automated refund via EntryBoss if withdrawing within scratching cut-off.
  • Event Cancellation - Riders will be provided with a full refund if the event is cancelled for any reason.
  • Refunds - Refunds will not be provided for no-shows or if you scratch after the cut off.
