Summer Gravity Series Round 1 Sponsored by Bobs Bikes Albany

About

The Albany MTB club is proud to present the inaugural club summer (and autumn!) gravity series. The gravity series is designed to introduce riders to gravity racing (Downhill and Gravity Enduro) and to provide an opportunity to practice skills for those entering the state series races this year. The aim is fun over competitiveness, but the racing will be timed, and prizes awarded after the completion of the final Thursday race.

  • Where: HQ set up at Overflow Carpark Cnr Apex Drive and Forts Road.
  • When: Thursday 2nd February
  • Sign in Desk Open : 1700-1730
  • Race Start (all categories) : 1730
  • Presentations : Thursday 23rd March 1830

THE FORMAT: Each scheduled Thursday, the summer gravity series will race a scheduled trail on Mt Clarence. 2nd February – Pilot trail from Apex lookout to finish near where trail starts going up! 23rd February – Mt Clarence Downhill from steel roll in ramp to DH track finish at wooden platform. 23rd March – Mt Clarence DH into Pilot trail from DH track steel roll in ramp to finish on Pilot trail where trail starts going up.

Each Thursday event, competitors have a one-hour period (5.30-6.30pm) to complete a timed run down the week’s race stage. Competitors may complete as many timed runs as they can fit in the hour, but please be mindful of other competitors trying to complete their race runs.

No qualifying runs. All timed runs count. An individual’s fastest run will be their time for the week’s stage. There are no set start orders. Competitors are requested to leave suitable time gap, recommended 20 seconds, between yourself and the competitor before you. Riders are requested to self-seed into groups of similar speed riders to speed up the process. No vehicle shuttling is permitted, all riders must make their own way to the start line for each run.

EVENT DIVISIONS: Male and female: Under 11, Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Open, Masters 40+ and E-bike. E-bikes must be set to factory specifications which is pedal assist only, max 25w and max output speed 25km/hr. E-bikes may be inspected at random and failure to comply with factory specifications is deemed as cheating with disqualification.

PRACTICE: Riders are expected to have completed one practice lap of the course prior to the 5.30pm racing time. Practice may occur during or prior to the 5.00-5.30pm registration period.

EQUIPMENT: Full face helmets are compulsory. Riders eligible for categories Under 17 and below must wear full finger gloves, full length jersey (covering elbows) and knee pads. If you do not have the required equipment please contact president@albanymtb.com or leave a message on the club facebook page @albanymtbclub and Albany MTB club will try and locate some suitable loan gear so that you are able to participate

PRIZES AND AWARDS: Winners for the summer gravity series will be based on points accumulated from each week’s race. Medals for each division will be presented following the race on Thursday 23rd March.
