CCC Junior Social Bunch


Calling All Juniors at Canberra CC, Vikings CC and Canberra Off Road Cyclists.

Juniors

CCC will be conducting a series of junior training sessions over the winter. This will include a mix of skill development and bunch rides.

The bunch rides are run on a volunteer basis by club members / parents / carers. The skill sessions will be led by CCC Coach Alban Comparat.

Where

Sessions meet at SFP pavilion.

Bring

  • Warm layers, long finger gloves, water. It’ll be cold.
  • Licences: Must have AusCycling ride or race licence (see below)

The Route

Route for both bunches will start from SFP, descend through Wright to Weston bike path, head out along Molonglo and northside of LBG bike path, before returning along Lady Denman Drive to Rock Garden, then reverse of route out to return to SFP Pavilion.

New riders

U11-U15 group require previous bunch riding or racing experience, but others may be included after discussion with the coach.

Each week we will conduct a quick roll call and briefing for new riders before the ride commences.


Equipment

  • Drop-bar road bike (no Time Trial aero bars or flat bar bikes)
  • Australian standards approved helmet
  • A warning device such as a bell
  • Appropriate clothing, water bottle, snacks puncture repair kit etc

We encourage all riders to wear their CCC, VCC, or CORC club kit.


About the Bunch

The session:

  • is run by volunteers from Canberra Cycling Club
  • is open to new and existing juniors from all clubs
  • is a social, supportive, and inclusive
  • is 'no-drop', and stays together
  • is focused on supporting new junior riders into the club
  • is focussed on building junior foundation skills, bunch riding skills and experience

Registration

To manage our participation reporting we require all participants (juniors and riding parents/carers) to register via EntryBoss.

In line with AusCycling requirements, each bunch is limited to 15 juniors.

If you have registered but are unable to attend please scratch yourself (cancel your registration) from the ride by hitting the 'Scratch' button.


Open Road Conditions

Sections of this session may take place on public, open roads. As with all on-road cycling, there is a risk associated with this activity.

Licences

An AusCycling Lifestyle (or better) licence is required to participate.

If you don't hold a licence but would like to attend you can take out a free trial licence on the AusCycling website, or better yet, join the Canberra Cycling Club.
