Soldiers Honour Handicap Road Race - Pine Dam - Sunday 3rd May 2026

HWCC Members Only - Juniors must be U17+

• Entries - Entries close on Friday evening at 7pm (to allow club officials time to set handicap start times for Sunday).

• Handicap Race - This is a handicap race - not graded races. Club handicappers will allocate start times for each rider, with the aim of giving every rider a reasonable chance of winning. Riders will start in small groups at various intervals and 'drafting' is legal for all riders at all stages of the race.

• Prizes - Cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd man + 1st, 2nd and 3rd woman + Fastest time on course. The 'Soldiers Honour' perpetual trophy will be presented to the winner at the annual club presentations in September.

THE BASICS

Eligibility (RESTRICTED) - Hamiltion Wheelers members (or 'HWCC club add-on' members) only may enter this event. 'Lifestyle' and 'Non-Riding' licences not accepted. Riders must have a Hamilton Wheelers grading - details - Click Here

Juniors - U15 and younger riders are prohibited from racing in this event as it is more than 40km (AusCycling Rules).

To help with setting handicap start groupings, enter in your regular grade then provide a level (1 to 3) where you believe you fit within your grade and also ensure you supply info in the comments to assist club handicappers including previous times for this course if you have raced it before. Not providing enough info may mean you are placed in a group above your ability.

Bring a rear light - For added safety, the HWCC Commissaires are strongly recommending riders fix a rear red light to their bikes for this race. While the club always has a 'sag-wagon' for our road races, they also suggest riders carry a spare tube in case of a puncture, which may make for a faster return to the finish.

Race Start Location - After signing on, riders must make their way to the race start location at the old Petrie Town Markets on Dayboro Road (approx 3 km away). Please allow time to get to the start line after signing on.

Race Start Time - First riders are away at 7am (sharp). Riders must be ready to start at their allotted time which will be called out by the commissaires at the start line. If you miss your start time...you'll be racing with a faster group!

Finish Line - The finish line is on Forgan Road at the sign-on location.

Race Number Patches - please place your number on your left side.

Enter Early - Entering early gives our handicappers a better chance of determining fair start times...you don't want to make the handicappers angry with you if you enter late! If you need to scratch yourself after entering, please be fair to other riders and do it as early as possible, so the handicappers can ensure other riders start in a reasonable sized group.

Race Rules - The drafting of riders from different start times is allowed at all stages of the race.

Road Rules - Normal Queensland road rules apply. Roads are not closed to general traffic. You must ride no more than two abreast unless passing. Do not cross centre lines. You will be disqualified if you cross the centre line in the finishing straight. Marshalls cannot stop traffic. Please take extra care while riding through Dayboro.
