Jindabyne Cycling Club (JCC) in partnership with Jindabyne Trail Stewardship (JTS) are hosting a casual and inclusive cross-country race at the Tyrolean MTB Park in East Jindabyne (Tyrolean Village). We want to provide our members and friends with some incentive to keep riding and having fun on their bikes as the days get shorter.
To deliver maximum fun for a potentially small field, we are trialling a handicap twist on standard XCO racing. This involves an optional prelude time trial late on Friday afternoon to check how you're all pedalling (approx. 2.5km). The main round follows on Saturday morning with laps of a larger circuit (approx. 7.5km). We all start together with prelude performance used to determine the number of laps for each participant (between 2 and 3 laps) and the handicap times applied to determine the results.
Prelude | Friday, 31 May 2024 (4pm) |
Main Round | Saturday, 1 June 2024 (10am) |
We'll be handing out door prizes from our generous sponsors at Dharco, Gravity Sports, Jindabyne Brewing and Pit Viper. A big shout out to those brands for supporting local racing.

Notes:
For insurance purposes, all riders need to be current race members of AusCycling (i.e. hold an annual race membership), hold a trial licence, or purchase an AusCycling Multi-day Event Licence. If you haven't held a race licence before, we suggest taking up a free trial membership here: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/free-trial
AusCycling Multi-day Event Licences are available via tickbox at entry at a cost of $74 (covering both Prelude and Main Round). This is cost price from AusCycling sorry. If you don't require an Event Licence, please avoid ticking the Event Licence option.
JCC has purchased some very fancy timing equipment and we need this back if we're to run future community racing events. SIAC timing chips will be issued upon registration at RaceHQ and must be returned following the main race on Saturday. Please ensure that you scan your timing chip at RaceHQ following the prelude to have your result is recorded.
A $140 non-return fee applies to timing chips (i.e. the cost of the chip).
Where do I park? Parking is available at RaceHQ at Echidna Place. Alternatively, you could ride to RaceHQ to get those legs warmed up.
Detailed course maps are linked below and accessible through the TrailForks app.

In setting the courses, we’re aiming to showcase the best that mountain biking the Tyrolean MTB Park has to offer. Courses will be approachable for riders with a low intermediate skill level and above, but all levels will find it challenging and fun thanks to A and B lines over and around difficult features. Courses include both flowing and technical terrain, taking in old favourite descents like Lower Three Lions and the Pink Trail along with some more unusual lines.
Dark Days is a cross-country XCO race format of timed laps to be completed and times aggregated up to the number allocated for the relevant participant. As an AusCycling sanctioned 'Bronze' level event, the race is subject to the rules and technical regulations applicable to the XCO format of racing. More details on this are available here.
NO.1 RULE – DON’T BE A JERK
Jindabyne is a small community and we’re fortunate to have many volunteers and local businesses supporting the events in our race calendar. Be positive, be nice and support them to support you.
Follow the directions of the Chief Commissaire and marshals. Commissaire’s decisions are final.
If you’re approaching a slower rider, give plenty of advance notice. The slower rider has right of way but should yield when safe to do so.
Provide assistance to riders in need, particularly if you see a fall. The Commisaire/timing marshals will provide time bonuses for lost time in assisting a fallen rider.
NO.2 RULE – BE SAFE OUT THERE
You must wear a helmet whenever you’re on your bike. An open face helmet is likely to provide the best combination of protection and comfort.
Aim to be largely self-sufficient with food, water and tools. JCC will have water, basic tools and first aid capability at RaceHQ.
Your bike must be in good working order, particularly the brakes and tyres.
