Event Summary

15/30/45km event, Wingello, Saturday 27th April, 2pm

Return to Wingello! Since the forest fires of 2020, Wingello has been closed as most of the old 26km loop was lost. A team of volunteers from Highlands Trails have rejuvenated part of the old loop and plans are underway for extending the network. Come and ride the first reclaimed section, which includes classic favourites such as Cover Shot, Princesses Revenge and Tangles, with some cool new features.

This event will be based on a 15km loop comprising around 9km of Firetrail and 6km of single trail. There are categories for all ages, from beginners and young kids to experienced racers. New members welcome!

Adults can choose to ride in C, B or A grade, which corresponds to 1, 2 or 3 laps of the 15km course, so that you ride 15, 30 or 45km in total.

E-Bike, U15 rand U17 riders should specify in the comments of their entry the number of laps they would like to ride, and we will work out a consensus among those entered. If there are a decent number of riders aged over 50 and doing the same number of laps, we will separate them into their own category.

Riders who are U9, U11 and U13 will need to be able to ride 1 lap of the course. Adults are welcome to ride with their children.

Please note all entry is online - CUTOFF is at 10:00am on race day, so that we have time to print start lists etc before heading to the track.

Number plate pickup any time after 1:00pm, racing at 2pm for all categories.

Riders may do a practice lap around the 6km XCO course between 1:00pm-2:00pm, before racing begins if they wish, but the main 15km course will probably be too long to need a practice lap as the remaining 9km will be made up of fire trail. Also, the XCO course does not contain anything so radical that you need to have practised it beforehand.

To enter you will need a valid AusCycling Race Licence. Please go to Membership on the AusCycling website if you are not currently a member.

Ages as at 31st December

• U17s are turning 13-16 in 2023.
• U13s are turning 11-12 in 2023.
• U11s are turning 9-10 in 2023 and may ride a modified course.
• U9s are turning anything up to 8 in 2023 and will ride a modified course.

• Juniors (to U17): $5 for Highlands Trails members or $10 for non-members
• Seniors (U19+): $10 for Highlands Trails members or $15 for non-members

About Highlands Trails

In 2022, Highlands Trails took over the responsibility of running all mountain bike events in the Southern Highlands. Previously Southern Highlands Cycling Club organised events in road, track and MTB, but they now specialise in only road and track. Highlands Trails has cared for the trails of Wingello for many years and has now taken on the custodianship of looking after all mountain bike trails in the Southern Highlands.
