XCC, Welby Friday 8th March, 6pm
This is a short course cross country race, at Welby. XCC stands for Cross Country Criterium. Riders race around a short loop of around 1km and race for a specified time (10, 15 or 20 minutes based on category) + an extra one lap. So after the leader of a 20 minute race comes through timing for the first time after the 20 minute mark, they get a bell signalling one lap to go. Every rider behind them also gets a bell and has one lap to go (even if they have been lapped). The winner is the rider with the most laps and the shortest time.
This format is fun for kids entering their first race as there is lots of spectator support. It is also fun for elite racers and everyone in between as there is plenty of room for passing and lots of opportunity for fast riding. The adults and kids do not race at the same time, so they can cheer and heckle each other on! The number of start groups will be decided on the day based on the number of entrants in each category. All riders should be ready to race at 6:00pm.
Please note all entry is online - CUTOFF is at 2:00pm on Friday, so that we have time to print start lists etc before heading to the track.
Number plates can be collected from 5:30. We recommend riders do a practice lap around the course between 5:30pm-6:00pm, before racing begins.
There are categories for all ages, from beginners and young kids to experienced racers. $10 adults, $5 children.

Welby Mountain Bike Trails
Highlands Trails recently took over the responsibility of running all mountain bike events in the Southern Highlands. Previously Southern Highlands Cycling Club organised events in road, track and MTB, but they now specialise in only road and track. Highlands Trails has cared for the trails of Wingello for many years and has now taken on the custodianship of looking after all mountain bike trails in the Southern Highlands. We are a family oriented club, looking to promote riding in the beautiful Southern Highlands area of NSW. Please visit our website www.highlandstrails.com.au for additional information.
