The 2025 AusCycling WA Cyclocross Championships

proudly run and organised by WA Cyclocross on behalf of Perth MTB Club and AusCycling WA

The 2025 AusCycling WA Cyclocross Championships is all about challenging yourself against the WACX spiritual home of cyclocross - the (in)famous Garvey Park. So now is your time to shine, jump up a grade (if you want to), service your bottom bracket and stick on your all-round/grass/mud tyres.

The Championships are seperate from The Numbat Cup but the philosophy still remain - a no-nonsense Cyclocross (CX) state series. No big cash prizes, no professional setups - just pure racing for fun!

Local parks, local riders, and local businesses support it. There’s a grade for everyone, and you can race on any bike you choose. Don’t try it if you don’t like having fun!

Race number plate info & fees

  • The aim is for riders to use the same plates for a few seasons
  • So once issued, please keep them safe and bring them to every race
  • You need two plates fitted to your bike so we can get accurate timing - a handlebar and seatpost-mounted plate
  • NOTE: Kids in U9/U13 only need one race plate - the larger handlebar mounted plate
Got your race plates from last season?
  • There's a one-off $10 fee to reactivate them for the 2025 season
  • Ensure you have two plates from last season. Only got one? You'll need to buy new plates - see below
Lost your race plates or new to CX this season?
  • For riders needing new plates, there's a $15 one-off fee
  • These are your numbers for all races, so please keep them safe
  • If you leave your plates at home, there's a $20 replacement fee

Entry fees

  • Race plate fee: $15 one-off plate fee for each adult rider. Please keep your race plates as a replacement plate will be $20
  • previous-seasons number reactivation fee: $10
  • Adult entry fee: $30
  • U15, U17 & U19 entry fee: $15
  • Discounted entry available for volunteers*: $20
*Please note that course pack-up at end of day doesn't constitute volunteering. Whilst course pack-up is appreciated, your help at the course build in the morning and volunteering at the timing and rego tent is golden.

  • Kids (U9, U11 & U13): - $10 per race plate. This is a one-off fee and then your child can race any race for the rest of the season for no additional fee. Just make sure you bring the same race plate to the race each week. Whilst there's no need for kids to pre-register for each race, it definitely helps our volunteers in the rego tent if you do. Also please note that all riders in WACX events (including kids) need to have a current AusCycling membership Read our guide

  • State Champs there will be RFID timing and 1st, 2nd & 3 places will be presented WACX Numbat Medals for both Boys and Girls in the Little CXers U9, U11 and U13.

Please follow WACX on Facebook or bookmark WACylocross to stay current!

    • You don't need to be an expert to help build the course. Our friendly volunteers will guide you in how to setup the course
    Start procedures

    • Free Practice: - additional free practice (partial course) will be available whilst kids racing is on.

    GRADING

What Grade? ....please be guided by your motor

"What grade should I ride in CX?"

A lot of people struggle with finding the right grade in CX, generally for one of two reasons; 1) They race, but are new to 'cross, or 2) They have never raced.

We will be opening entries soon so please be guided by the following advice when requesting a grade...

    "be guided by your motor"

What does that mean? It means that you should ride against riders of similar strength, not drop down because of some perceived disadvantage around tech skills.

Some examples: If you race A grade on the Road/MTB or at your local crit, we request that you enter Elite grade for CX.
If you don't race but you are a similar level to some of your training buddies who race B grade on the Road/MTB, enter B grade. If you have never raced and aren't able to gauge a grade off any of your training partners, you should enter C Grade and see how you go.

You will be asked for Grading Information at entry. Please provide information that helps the Handicappers either confirm your requested grade or determine the correct grade for you. Information helps get you into the correct grade. Also note that you request a grade, and that may be changed by the Handicappers. The published Final Start List is confirmation of your grade for race day.

WACX can and will encourage riders that are capable of riding the next grade. If you are in a lower grade and are consistently lapping times that are above the meantime in the grade above you will be promoted.
