About

  • Saturday 20th - Sunday 21st July 2019
  • 2 DAYS, 3 RACES, THE TROPHY.
  • THE PRIZE MONEY.
  • COMPETITION BETWEEN ALICE, DARWIN AND MT ISA RIDERS.
  • NT Time Trial Championships, Road Race and Criterium.
  • Open, Junior and Social grades.
  • DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS?

This is a Club team event where ALL riders earn points for their Club, and aim to win the Barkly Challenge Trophy.

Darwin Cycling Club has held the Trophy for the past 2 years.

Who will have it after lunch on the 21st?

The weekend comprises the NT Time Trial Championships/prologue on Saturday morning, a team road race on Saturday afternoon and a team criterium on Sunday morning.

The NT Time Trial Titles will be included in the prologue on Saturday morning. ALL riders who have been a member of their CA affiliated Club for a minimum of two months prior to the 20th July 19 are eligible to compete for both Barkly Challenge team points as well as the NT Time Trial Title in the same event.

The Barkly Challenge is not a stage race but three individual events. Riders can ride one, two, or all three events. Failure to start or finish one event does not preclude participation in subsequent events. The road race circuit will be run over the same 20km circuit as the time trial but with a neutral start from the BP Service Station on Paterson St (Stuart Highway). The distances will vary for each Grade. A Grade will complete 80km, B Grade 60km and C Grade 40km. Higher points are awarded to the higher grades to reward the stronger teams.

Juniors are encouraged to participate. The Barkly Challenge again is included as a National Junior Road Series (NJRS) event. This allows all U17 & U15 Northern Territory riders to accumulate points towards the NJRS. U17 riders will complete a TT of approximately 15km, the U15 & U13 TT will be approximately 8km and other junior riders will have an age appropriate distance. Similarly the road race distance is commensurate with expected abilities and CA guidelines. The road race distance for U17 will be 60km , U15 40km, U13 20km, and other juniors at age appropriate distances. The final determination of the points system in relation to juniors will be dependent on the number of registered riders.

Junior roll-out will be at 9am adjacent to the start line for the time trial.

Social riders are also invited to participate in all events on whatever roadworthy bike they have. These riders will be untimed and without places recorded. All social riders will receive Club points for participation. Social riders will require a Cycling Australia RIDE membership as a minimum. (Event only memberships are available online).

Riders are invited to the NT Time Trial Championship medal presentation to be held at the Memorial Club on Saturday evening.

At the celebration lunch on Sunday presentation of the Barkly Challenge Trophy will complete the weekend of cycling.
