Chicks In The Sticks 2024

Sunday 18th August | Karingal Scout Camp, Mt Cotton, Redland City

About:

RATS Cycling Club presents Chicks in the Sticks – a three-hour cross country mountain bike event.

Chicks in the Sticks is a women’s only race suitable for both beginner and experienced riders - junior and senior. With a range of categories to choose from, to suit your riding experience and ability, there is something for everyone. 2024 will feature two loops - green and blue - rejoining to ride together through event village and over the timing mats.

Licence: AusCycling RACING membership WILL BE required, and must be shown on the day or purchased on the day if you enter here without it. A four-week free trial can be accessed at: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/free-trial ; alternatively, to cover you for more races, access a 12-month 'race off-road' or 'race all discipline' membership at https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership ; or choose an event day licence at: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/event-licences.

T-Shirts:
We will not be stocking t-shirts for this year's event. Prior years have encountered issues with the product used, so we're setting them aside to come back next year with a brand new product.

Camping:
Camping is available at Karingal Scout Camp for two nights (Friday and Saturday) for $20 a night per site. Spots will be available at race base, with two portaloos, or dotted around the camp grounds nearer to other amenity blocks with toilets and showers. Spots will not be allocated, but on a first come, first set up basis.

Hard-Boiled Double Yolkers: Teams of two, with racing experience and good fitness. Tag-team on the blue-level loop.

Soft-Boiled Double Yolkers: Teams of two. Too shy to do it alone or concerned about your fitness? Bring a friend and do a tag-team around the green-level loop. (Age 15+)

LITTLE CHICKS IN THE STICKS CATEGORIES

Junior Double Yolkers: Teams of two between the ages of 11 and 14 years. Race the FULL green-level loop with the ladies for the shorter time of two hours. Ride tag team laps as for the Double Yolkers.

Chick-A-Dees: 30-minute race on a shorter course for riders between the ages of 12 and 15 years. (Adjusted course incorporating part of the green-level single trails)

NOTES on Little Chicks

Please don't enter Chick-a-Dees if you can ride for an hour - leave it for the new riders. Please consider having those riders join a friend and enter the Junior Double Yolkers, or Soft-Boiled Double Yolkers, depending on age.

Post on the CITS Facebook page - and RATS Cycling Club - if you need to find a new friend to ride with in a team. Once you've made contact and decided to join together, choose a team name and enter separately using that name.
