The inaugural BBCC Road Race - Lismore 2023, proudly supporting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, will start under neutral conditions in the Lismore CBD, before heading north into Woodlawn and Numulgi rural countryside, and return back into the regional city. The course is set on closed roads from Woodlark St, Lismore, north past Woodlawn College, to Numulgi Hall. This is the turn-around for D grade, the beginner and E-bike race. A, B and C will continue up the challenging Duncan Road Climb to Hunters Hill Road for their turn-around point. The lap finishes back at the round-a-bout of Woodlark St and Molesworth St, which was one of the focal points of footage of the devastating floods in 2022. For the beginner and E-bike categories, this will also be the finish of their 1 lap race (20km with 178m ascent). All the remaining grades will complete laps as follows: D: 2 laps Lismore-Numulgi Hall (40km with 356m ascent), C: 1 lap Lismore - Hunters Hill turn-around + 1 lap Lismore-Numulgi Hall (52km with 549m ascent), B: 2 full laps Lismore-Hunters Hill turn-around (60km with 757m ascent), and A: 3 full laps (88km with 1147m ascent.). Features in this race include a neutralised start of about 1km. From Woodlark St riders will follow their respective commissaire's vehicle into Molesworth St and onto Winterton Parade crossing the Wilson River. Competitors will see an unassuming river that quickly grew and overcame all the roads and city of Lismore. About 250m later near the Pitt Lane intersection, is Kilometre Zero where racing begins. It is not long before riders will be in the Lismore countryside traversing rural roads through farming enterprises and historical settlements at Woodlawn and Numulgi. For A, B, & C grades they will also experience the Duncan Road climb: a 2km climb (and then a descent) with an average of 7%, but with pitches significantly steeper, before some smaller rolling hills along the ridge to the turn-around near Hunters Hill Road intersection. The climb will be a hot-spot for climbers to breakaway, but they will need to hold off the chasing peloton for the 15km return into the city. Riders will get a good look at the Finish line as it will be in Molesworth Street before the turn-around used to complete the laps. The course offers opportunity for the breakaway and for the bunch to chase them down before the finale over a small crest. This novel course will provide plenty for the rider and spectator.
