This autumn, VCC are partnering with Coach Cheryl Hulskamp to run a skills squad to help riders sharpen their skills.

Vikings squads are infamous for the supportive environment they create, while helping riders improve skills and fitness. Previous squads have helped riders achieve goals they never thought they could do before, such as Tour of Bright or Peaks Challenge.

This program will be held in two parts.

Part 1 – Skills consolidation The first 3 skills sessions will be held from late March and will cover bunch management, cornering skills and emergency braking. These sessions will be suitable for anyone who is looking to improve their bunch riding, including anyone who has completed the novice program and wants to advance their skills further.

The sessions will be held from 6-7am from CIT Bruce on:
Tuesday 21 March
Tuesday 28 March
Tuesday 4 April

Part 2 – Skill enhancement The second skills block will be held in May. These will be an introduction to racing, pacelining and enhanced cornering. Suitable for those who have completed part 1 or ride regularly in bunches and want to further advance their skills. Also suitable for those who want to get into racing, or just perfect pacelining with the groups at Wasabi and the Norman!

You do not need to have done part 1 to sign up for part 2, and entries will reopen for part 2 in April.

These sessions will be held from 6-7am, location to be determined, on:
Tuesday 2 May
Tuesday 9 May
Tuesday 16 May

Costs

Part 1 - $65
Part 2 - $65
Parts 1 and 2 - $120

Licensing

You will need to have an AusCycling “Lifestyle” or “Race All Discipline” licence. https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership Make sure you select Vikings Cycling Club ACT as your affiliated club.

You will also need an Australian standards approved helmet, a drop-bar road bike (no Time Trial aero bars or flat bar bikes), and front and rear lights.
