The Rodgers Memorial Shield was instigated in1982 as a lasting legacy from the Rodgers cycling family, which lived in Cremorne from the 1930’s. The family of 12 included five cycling champions, starting with Teddy Rodgers and later four of his sons, Eric, Ted jnr, Keven and Jack. Another son Doug, now the oldest surviving family member, has attended the race in previous years to present the perpetual shield to the race winner.
The Wollingford Loops course is great for a handicap race with a mix of fast rolling roads along Mackay-Eungella Rd, a few technical corners and a short hill which also doubles as the race finish line on the third ascent.
