Handicap Club Race Sunday 13th September

GENERAL INFO

Alpine Cycling Club

ROAD RACING IS HERE TO STAY! We have worked hard to be able to offer to all members a local Handicap club race, 56.3 km Buffalo River Road course. So register and be part of the series.

Anyone who wants to compete but doesn't have a racing licence, please upgrade your club membership to a free one month AusCycling race licence and give it a go. The restrictions of the current race approval is a limited number of entrants, so get in fast. Priority will be given to Alpine Cycling members, it is possible that we may over subscribe entries. We will continue this racing on the 2nd weekend of each month until November, and restart in the new year.

For those who are unsure (sorry to the experienced racers) how a handicap race works, with 30-50 riders we are looking for 4-5 groups of ideally 6-8 people each A-E grade, spread out so E grade can average 30ish kmph to learn how to work together in a race situation (potentially chaperoned with an experienced racer) and if the handicap timing works, all coming together within the last few kilometres. The race will also have a LEAD car, TAIL car, commissaire as well as a turn around Marshall, so it is planned for safety and inclusive enjoyment. For the more serious racers, the plan is to ride to and from the race (normal Saturday morning ride) to add training distance with a hard effort being the race.

RACE Details:

  • Distance: 56.3kms
  • Entry: $10 via Entry Boss
  • Start time: 10:00am for limit markers (first group to start)
  • Registration: From 9:30am - 9:45am. Ensure you arrive no later than 9:40am.
  • Ride group departs CyclePath 8:45am sharp
  • Race Briefing - 9:50am
  • Starting from the Myrtleford footy ground and turning the riders (30km from start) prior to the “skinny bridge” so two way traffic is managed and safe.
  • The finish line will be on the open straight section just prior to the last hill coming into Myrtleford with disqualifications if any rider crosses the middle line.
  • For those who don't have race numbers these will be available at registration - so ensure you arrive in time to collect your race number

Revised final grading / handicap system is being trialled into the future to allow for more equitable grouping sizes and racing. The handicapping committee is continually working on quality and improvement.

It is a RACE and treated as such, so all the rules apply including if your bunch gets caught, jump on, try and hang in and help the collective group to stay away from the next chasing group. Have fun, ride hard and get fit.

We are asking that everyone gives this a try if they are remotely interested in racing or learning to race, we will make room to accommodate all.
A reminder that you need a race licence as well as a working rear light to be able to race. Race numbers are allocated for the entire series so please bring them with you weekly.

If you are not racing but can help please do so and this volunteering will place you with priority for your next race entered.
