DOUG GARLEY MEMORIAL 50km HANDICAP
About
Doug Garley was a legend of cycling in Victoria, having been a member of many clubs (including Blackburn Cycling Club, Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club, Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club and Eureka CC) and impacting on many riders careers in both road and track cycling.
This handicap race takes place on a unique course at Learmonth with a stretch of unsealed road (hard compacted, suitable for normal road bikes/tyres).
The winner takes home a unique trophy - a geological treasure in the form of volcanic rock sourced from Saddleback Hill (at the finish line on Davenport Rd).
Entry Criteria
- All entries must be completed online.
- Entries close 5:00 pm 30/05/2026.
- No on-the-day entries will be accepted.
- Must hold a valid AusCycling racing licence
- Must be a current Eureka Cycling Club member
- Must have completed a minimum of 3 races with Eureka Cycling Club (includes representing Eureka in the 2026 VMC series)
- Must have completed any assigned marshal duties
Race-day Registration
Location: Corner of Outlet Rd and Foreshore Rd, Learmonth VIC 3352
**Rego open:* 8:45am
**Rego close:* 9:15am
**Process:* riders MUST attend in person to register attendance, confirm emergency contact details and collect equipment
Race Start
- Exact details of the location of the start are available on the day, during registration.
- Riders must be present at the start line for the Race Briefing, which will be conducted 5 minutes before their scheduled start time.
- Limit group are set off at 9:30 am SHARP
Post Race
- Presentations and refreshments will take place at the clubhouse
- Riders are requested to bring a plate to share after the event.
- Bring cash or card for soft drinks and raffle tickets.
- FREE tea and coffee.

Handicapping
Please help the Handicappers by selecting your normal scratch grade at entry and providing a comment.
This self-assessment helps create an initial grouping of riders by ability.
The handicappers will then go to work building the race and assigning groups and marks based on entries.
Disclaimer
- This is not a closed road event. The Victorian Road Rules must be adhered to at all times.
- Qualified Riders - ALL riders must hold a current AusCycling racing license and be a member of Eureka Cycling Club
- Entry is conditional upon receipt of the entry fee.
- Equipment - Standard non-powered road bicycles, with curved bars ONLY.
- Riders must ensure their equipment is in good working order and have a working, solid (non flashing) tail light and helmet.
- Race Commissaires may conduct spot checks of equipment and tail lights and reject entries if equipment does not meet required standards.
