Dust off your steel bike. Come and race your steel frame bike around Brunswick Velodrome for a good cause.
$5 entry - all proceeds to the Cancer Council
Steel bike day is proudly supporting Le Petit Merde, a team taking on the Spring 2026 Shitbox Rally to raise vital funds for Cancer Council research. This August, Brunswick member Nick Sharp and friend Jason will attempt the epic journey from Adelaide to Darwin in a 40‑year‑old Peugeot 505 GTI—proof that heart, humour and determination matter more than horsepower. Every dollar raised goes directly to Cancer Council, helping fund life‑saving cancer research. Come along, donate generously, and help push this brave little French car closer to the finish line, for a cause that truly matters.

See you down there!
Dave will come up with something special for the old bikes! . Racing will usually be:
A long endurance race of 40-80 laps (e.g. points, timed criterium etc)
A shorter race of 4-30 laps that tests riders' skill sets and focuses on upcoming track events (e.g. Win and out, handicaps, team sprints/pursuits, longest lap, Italian pursuits)
A moderate length endurance race of 30-60 laps (e.g. scratch, extended elimination, team elimination, tempo)
We aim to give all riders who can ride safely a chance to race on their steel framed bikes.
This means grading will be dependent on ability level rather than age and you may be racing with someone much older or younger than you.
We will begin with grading A through to D grade depending on numbers and we will make appropriate race formatting arrangements as required.
