Rockhampton Mountain Bike Club presents one of the few one-day Cross-Country Marathon races in Australia when the third iteration of this annual event returns to First Turkey Mountain Bike Reserve on Saturday 6 June 2026.
To take advantage of the cool winter weather, this daytime race will be held from 10am to 4pm, which also allows riders to enjoy the scenic course, consisting of three laps of a 20km circuit with over 400m elevation - 60km and 1,200m in total. Tackle it solo if you're keen or make up a team of two or three and share the challenge!
Rocky MTB Club aims to be inclusive with separate categories for a variety of ages, genders and even e-bikers!
The course includes some of the best green and blue rated trails at First Turkey! Start at the Trail Head, head over the infamous Zara's Crossing, hook it up Horseshoe, then take a moment to check out the Hanging Rock as you ride under it. Enjoy the visual relief of the views over Rockhampton city on the long Jack Hammer climb. If you are wary, you can walk Dog Leg, a short black rated downhill segment from Ant Nest Hub. Wind your way along Wandali, through the aptly named Skyline Hub, onto the iconically flowy Pegasus, both with waterfalls and cool sub-tropical rainforest sections. Zoom down Zamia because it will be closed to walkers for the race. Smash the switchbacks up the hand-built Lower Wild Pig, then send it down a recently revamped Whip Snake. Take in some refreshment along Moore's Creek before tackling the original Finley's climb, with the reward of flying down the quadruple rock drops on Scrub Turkey. Bush Chook Donut might be a funny name, but take those first flat and sketchy downhill corners seriously. Relish in the fast flat corners of the twisty Sunset as you return to the Trail Head to complete the lap.
