CRITERIUM TRAINING Back for 2025 - NCC is excited to be reigniting our fortnightly criterium training.
The sessions will all have a similar format, with an initial portion of the session dedicated to skill development (eg how to nail a corner, whether you are in a race, or out on the road), before moving onto bunch and racing craft (eg attacking the bunch, swapping turns) and finally some fun little race simulation scenarios! The sessions aren't meant to leave you exhausted, but help you become a better bike rider whilst having a bit of fun along the way.
The goals of our sessions are: * Increase the level of stoke for bike racing (especially crits); * Help those attending increase their general bike handling skill set, and provide a structured sessions to help with increasing race fitness; * Empower riders to take the next steps in their racing/riding; * To continue to help build the community around the oldest cycling club in the southern hemisphere.
What to expect: NCC has welcomed a number of new coaches into the fold leading into the season. And with that we hope to be able to maintain good coach to rider ratios at every session, enabling us to split the groups up into smaller groups for some better coaching support.
Although we target this session at criterium racing, we still welcome those who aren't yet racing, aren't sure about racing, and don't want to race.
All NCC coaches are accredited by AusCycling, have their working with children clearances and first aid/CPR Certificates.
Time: 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Venue: Victoria Park (Grandstand)
Cost: Free
AusCycling membership not required.
Want to race criteriums but don't know where to start? Or racing already but want to build some confidence with corners or bunch sills? Come along to one of our free Skills Sessions and give criterium racing a go! Our qualified coaches will get you skilled up with the fundamental skills you need to get racing!
If there is extra interest we'll make sure to add extra coaches with smaller groups so you can get the most out of the sessions.
These sessions are free, and you don't need to be a member. This is not suited to beginner riders, but so long as you can confidently ride on your own we think you will be ready to get stuck in!
Victoria Park is a traffic free environment, but is regularly used by members of the public who don't always pay full attention to what's going on so all riders are advised to ride with care, and watch out for errant dogs, balls and pedestrians. We do hire the venue for these sessions, but don't have the volunteers available to help keep the track clear!
