AusCycling Australia acknowledges the Kaurna people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Adelaide Superdrome rests. AusCycling acknowledge not only this ancestral relationship, but also the ongoing deep feelings of attachment and relationship of the people of these nations to Country. We respect and value their past, present and ongoing connection to the land and cultural beliefs. We also pay our respects to their Elders past and present. In addition, we extend that respect to other Aboriginal Language Groups and other First Nations.

How it works | The Madison is a relay race of two riders in which only one rider is “in the race” at any time. Points are awarded in intermediate sprints throughout the race, and teams can also gain points by lapping the field — but they can also lose points by being lapped. The final sprint awards double points to the victors. The men race for 200 laps (50km) while the women race 120 laps (30km), and in both races, there will be 16 two-person teams zipping around the velodrome. The defining image of the Madison is the handoff, where the actively racing teammate links hands with the resting teammate and then slingshots the rider from behind back into the race to contend for the points. |
Approach | Over a few months, every session will have a particular skill that is given to achieve. It will be a steady progression every week with the hope by the finale session a practice race will be achievable. |
Aim | For all South Australian juniors to have a better understanding of Madison's, of which will help them race with confidence but also soften the transition between club level and elite level Madison's in Australia. |
