Flyer

Norwood Cycling Club acknowledges the Peramangk people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Rocky Creek Gravel Kermesse takes place. We acknowledge not only this ancestral relationship, but also the ongoing deep feelings of attachment and relationship of the people of these nations to Country. We respect and value their past, present and ongoing connection to the land and cultural beliefs. We also pay our respects to their Elders past and present. In addition, we extend that respect to other Aboriginal Language Groups and other First Nations.

Rocky Creek Gravel Kermesse

NCC are delighted to announce the first of our gravel kermesses! Taking place within the Rocky Creek Forest, this is an all closed road, gravel kermesse using the Forestry SA fire roads within this section of Kuitpo Forest. Riders will take on a number of laps of the lumpy 14.5km circuit. The course takes in a mixture of Sweeping bends, punchy climbs, scenic gravel vistas, and a little bit of singletrack. Riders with off-road skills will have the upper hand, but it will be a hard course to stay away on!

The terrain and surfaces you will be encountering on this course will require a bike with a minimum of 32mm gravel/cx tyres. While there are no rules saying you cant run a narrower tyre, i wouldn't recommend it! The ideal setup would be 40mm (approx) tubeless tyres. A cyclocross bike/Gravel Bike/hardtail MTB would all make great options!

Entries close at Thursday 30th of June. This event is open to ALL clubs and Auscycling licensed riders. Four week free trial memberships are available for this event. As this is a off-road event, riders are permitted to race on a "race off-road license," aka MTB or BMX race license.

U19/U23/Elite/Masters$30.00

Juniors $20.00

Mechanicals, and Pits/feed zone
In the event of any repairable mechanical, riders should aim to be self sufficient on course - Carry a tube and/or a tubeless plug, a CO2 canister or pump etc. If the mechanical is not immediately repairable but the rider would like to continue in the race, they must follow the course until reaching the pits.

In the event of a race ending mechanical, riders should make their way back to the start area and alert the chief commissaire of their DNF.

Feeding is available to riders in the pits area, which will be located after the finish line. No other feeding is permitted on course.

Podiums and prizes
Each race will have its own podium recognising riders who pushed the hardest, as well as those who showed great spirit, and "gravel gusto", with great prizes from the events sponsors.

Presentations for the junior races will be after the start of the Senior racing, and the Senior race presentations will be after the conclusion of all the races for the day. There will be food and drinks available at the sign on area, so hang around and cheer on the riders as they take on the course.

Selecting your grade - This isn't our regular criterium or road race grading.

  • If you have raced Cyclocross before, grade yourself based on your grade in CX.
  • If you have raced MTB Cross Country before, grade yourself based on where you are graded in those races.
  • If you've never raced either of those disciplines, nominate based on what grade you usually race in our criteriums, and then give yourself a handicap relative to your fitness level, and your technical ability on mixed terrains.
  • The race director and off-road handicapper (Max) will take all this info into account and then make the final call. End of the day, these will be really fun, challenging races, where finishing will be a fantastic achievement, and being near or on the podium will be the cherry on top!

  • Grades will also be dependant on race entries, so if we see that there is enough entries to have a C and D grade as separate race, or Womens B and C as separate races, we will make that call closer to the race day.
