Australia’s best female riders will descend on the iconic Great Ocean Road region for the two-day Subaru National Road Series event, Amy’s Otway Tour.
Amy’s Otway Tour is held in memory of Australian cycling team member Amy Gillett, who tragically lost her life in a training ride in Germany in 2005 when hit by a car. The Great Ocean Road was one of Amy’s favourite training locations.
On Saturday 10 September 2016, the main street of Lorne, Victoria, will be closed for Amy’s Otway Tour Criterium, which commences at 4:00pm. A large crowd will be on hand to witness the riders take on the hotdog circuit, with spectators providing cash for random sprint laps to keep the action going.
Time bonuses awarded in the Criterium, which will carry forward to the race on Sunday, giving the sprinters a chance to build a time buffer before tackling the challenging climbs in the Otway Ranges.
On Sunday 11 September 2016, riders will take on the picturesque Great Ocean Road and Otway Ranges for the road race event, Amy’s Otway Tour Classic.
Commencing at 7:30am, riders will navigate the 120km course, covering a total of 2021 vertical metres and featuring the following climbs; 1 x category 2 climb, 2 x category 3 climbs and 1 x category 5 climb.
Amy’s Otway Tour is held in conjunction with Wiggle Amy’s Gran Fondo, a mass participation event that raises much needed funds to help the Amy Gillett Foundation create a safe bike riding environment in Australia.
More than 5,500 bike riders and their families and friends will descend on Lorne and Apollo Bay for a weekend of cycling centric activities. Click here to find out more.
